First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion continues the faith journey begun at baptism.

‘I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is My flesh,’

John 6:51

As Catholics, we believe that Christ is fully present in the host and receiving the Eucharist for the first time is therefore a deeply profound and faithful moment and requires careful preparation.

Our Parish offers First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion Preparation Programme for children aged 8 or above.

Please note: If an elder children has not made their First Holy Communion and wishes to do so, it might, depending upon their age, be appropriate for them to join the reception into the Catholic Church. Please contact Faith Formation Coordinator to discuss a better support.

Programme:

Key Elements:

  • Participating actively and consciously in Sunday Mass on a weekly basis
  • Understanding the Holy Eucharist is truly the Body and Blood of Christ under the appearance of bread and wine.
  • Understanding the Eucharist is the memorial of Christ’s sacrifice for our salvation, and a commemoration of Christ’s last meal with his disciples.
  • Understanding after receiving First Communion, they are now full members of the Body of Christ, and now share in His table and in the community of their brothers and sisters in Christ.
  • Has been prepared and received First Confession (the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation) prior to First Communion.
  • Receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in an informed and reverent manner.

“It’s important for children to properly prepare for their First Communion, so that there’s no child without this Sacrament. The Eucharist is a firm step towards Jesus, along with Baptism and Confirmation.”
