Parish History

"Four Churches, One Parish – A Journey of Faith and Unity"

The story of our parish is one of unity and growth, bringing together four Catholic churches to form a vibrant and welcoming community. As the Parish of The Annunciation, Rushcliffe, we are proud to honour our shared history while looking forward to a future of faith and service.

The Formation of Our Parish

In Autumn 2022, the churches of Holy Spirit (West Bridgford), Our Lady of Grace (Cotgrave), St. Anne (Radcliffe-on-Trent), and St. Margaret Clitherow (Keyworth) came together as one Catholic community. This union marked the beginning of a new chapter, welcoming worshippers of all ages into a single parish family.

On 25th March 2023, we officially became The Parish of The Annunciation, Rushcliffe Our parish name echoes the words of Mary at the Annunciation,  “Let it be according to your will”  The official decree establishing our new parish was presented to Fr John Martin, our Parish Priest at the inaugural Mass at the Becket School.

Celebrating the Establishment

To commemorate this historic moment, we celebrated Mass on the Solemnity of the Annunciation at The Becket School on 25th March 2023. During this special Mass, Fr. Simon Gillespie, Private Secretary to the Bishop of Nottingham, presented the decree establishing our new parish to our Parish Priest, Fr. John Martin, on behalf of Bishop Patrick.

Our Parish Boundary

Our parish spans approximately three-fifths of the Borough of Rushcliffe, covering nearly 100 square miles. The area is home to around 100,000 people, with significant population growth anticipated in the 2020s due to housing developments in:

Edwalton – 1,500 homes

Bingham – 1,000 homes

Newton – 550 homes

Keyworth – 450 homes

Radcliffe on Trent – 800 houses

This expanding community brings exciting opportunities to share our faith and extend our outreach.
