Forthcoming Events – Diocese
St Mary’s College, Oscott, near Birmingham has been training Catholic priests to serve the community in this country for over 200 years. The College opened in 1794, with a small group of schoolboys and three seminary students. As the college expanded and Catholic life in England emerged from the penal times, the new college was built on the site in 1838. The chapel is both the heart of the college’s life and the centre of Augustus Welby Pugin’s work at Oscott, which draws us into the mystery of Christianity and closer to God. Pugin also created the College Museum.
We have arranged a trip to Oscott College, for a guided tour of the Pugin architecture by resident Seminarians. A coach will be leaving the Cathedral at 1.30pm on Sunday 29th September, and expecting to return at around 7.15pm. Tea and cake is available during the afternoon. The visit will conclude in the Chapel with Evening Prayer with the college community at 5.30pm. This ends at 5.50pm. You will then have an opportunity to purchase any souvenirs, before departure at 6.10pm. Numbers are limited, so if you would like to attend, please contact the Cathedral Office as soon as possible. The cost of the event is £20.00 per person, and places will be reserved when payment is received.
Places are available for residential and day visitors with subsidies available to 18-25 year olds. More information is on the poster, or contact Jennifer Burridge for bookings: 01792 775598 or jburridge@mac.com
