9th West Bridgford (Holy Spirit) Scout Group
"Shaping Young Lives Through Adventure and Service Since 1943"
The Holy Spirit Scout Group has been a cornerstone of the parish community since its founding in July 1943, at the request of Rev. Fr. Robert Woodbridge. With a mission to nurture young people through fun, adventure, and life skills, the group has grown and adapted over the decades, leaving a lasting impact on generations of Scouts and leaders.

Our Journey Through Time
-
1943: The Scout Troop began, led by Dan Dominic. The Cub Pack was added a year later under Betty Clausner. Initially, both groups were exclusively for boys.
-
1974: With the opening of the new church, the Scout Group flourished under leaders like Peter Fooks and Betty Fooks, marking the start of multigenerational involvement.
-
1987: The Scout Troop temporarily closed due to a lack of leaders but resumed in 2001, reigniting the spirit of Scouting in the parish.
-
1991: Girls were welcomed into all sections, promoting inclusivity.
-
2016: The Beaver Scout Colony was established for children aged 6 to 8, expanding opportunities for younger participants.
-
2020: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Scouting activities moved online, with leaders demonstrating creativity and dedication to keep the spirit alive.
What We Do
The Scout Group offers a wide range of activities to develop skills, confidence, and teamwork:
-
Outdoor Adventures: Camping, hiking, expeditions, and nature exploration.
-
Skill Development: First aid, cooking, gardening, and leadership training.
-
Creative Activities: Pantomimes, theme nights, cake decorating, and charity events.
-
Service and Community: Volunteering and raising funds for important causes.
Young people have the opportunity to earn Chief Scout’s Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards, and some have represented the group at World Scout Jamborees.
Join the Adventure
The Scout Group welcomes children and young people aged 6 to 14, offering Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts sections. Many participants return as Young Leaders or Adult Leaders, continuing the tradition of service and mentorship.
