CAFOD Group

We are a group of parishioners who meet 5 or 6 times each year, to encourage giving, acting and praying in support of the work of CAFOD. The group was founded in 1975 and has been very successful but we always welcome new members and fresh ideas.

Are you interested in the causes of poverty and injustice in the developing world? Are you interested in raising awareness of important issues? Have you got ideas for raising funds?

CAFOD (The Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) began in 1962 and is the official international development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales and promotes human development and social justice in witness to Christian faith and Gospel values. It is a member of the Caritas Internationalis Federation, a worldwide network of Catholic relief and development organisations.

CAFOD works in partnership, building long term relationships with local organisations in around 40 countries across Latin and Central America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, supporting their work to build a better world for people living in poverty. In emergency situations CAFOD provides immediate humanitarian relief, but stays on, supporting long term projects to help people rebuild their lives. An essential part of CAFOD’s work, both in the UK and overseas, is challenging governments, institutions and international bodies to adopt policies that promote social justice and end poverty.

CAFOD’s mission is to work alongside the world’s poorest people, working with people of all faiths and none, to ensure women and men in developing countries can make a decent living, access markets, and meet their families’ needs long term. We look forward to hearing from anyone who is willing to help in the Group or wants to know more about the work of CAFOD. Donations can be placed in the CAFOD BOX (at the back of the church weekends only). Please mark your donations with your intention if you want the money to go to a specific appeal, otherwise the money will go to support our on-going CAFOD focus.
